Onlt 2 weeks into the new year & already a great light has gone out of the world.

Legendary New York DJ/Producer/Performer, Raul A. Rodriguez passed away on Jan 4th this year.

I was only made aware of this fact as the great DJ Friction posted an incredible  tribute mix on Mixcloud.

Along with contemopraries such as Mann Parrish (for whom her produced the seminal b-boy classic ‘Hip Hop Be Bop’) & John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez, he helped change the face of dance music, as well as influencing the wave of electro/rap from the early 80’s.

Any b-boy/hip hop fan of a certain age will have at least one record he wrote, mixed, remixed or produced & it’s a great loss.

If you’re unfamiliar with his output, Friction’s mix provides a worthy overview of his work as well as being a fitting tribute has an obituary that you can find here

I’ve got a lot of love for my recent mashups on Mixcloud, but the daddies of the craft inspired me to do this mix.

New York AV8 records have been making cut & paste party tracks for over 20 years & they’ve been as much a part of Stump Juice as Booby Bird & The Brand New Heavies.

It’s a tribute to their craft & the shops I bought the stuff from.
